Westbrook paves way for mega-retail project

The Westbrook Planning Board yesterday unanimously approved zoning changes to accommodate the massive Stroudwater Place retail development, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The $300 million project would cover 60 acres and include 1 million sq. ft. of retail space, 100,000 sq. ft. of office space and 250,000 sq. ft. for sports and entertainment outlets, the paper said. The project would be larger than the Maine Mall in South Portland, which includes 1.2 million sq. ft. of retail space.

The land's owner Jason Snyder and Arthur Emil, a New York developer, unveiled their plans in February. The project would be built in phases over approximately 10 years and could create as many as 5,000 permanent jobs, the paper said.
