Westbrook prepares to fill big void left by employer

The city of Westbrook is preparing to fill a void that will be left by Disability RMS and its 350 employees when the disability insurance company moves to South Portland in 2016.

The American Journal reported that Assistant City Administrator William Baker said the city is hoping to find new tenants for One Riverfront Plaza, the company’s current location, by the time Disability RMS leaves in two years.  He said the city will “work aggressively with the [property’s] landlord to try to deliver some quality new tenants.”

Baker announced earlier this week that Disability RMS will not renew its lease at One Riverfront after failing to reach a lease agreement with its landlord.

City officials attempted to mediate lease negotiations between Disability RMS and the property owner, even going as far as flying city staff to the property owner's office in New Jersey, but those efforts proved fruitless after the company found a lease in South Portland.
