Roger Doiron, founding director of Scarborough-based nonprofit Kitchen Gardeners International, has won a national competition and will pitch his idea of planting an organic vegetable garden on the White House lawn to President-elect Barack Obama's staff.
Doiron's idea, called Eat the View, recently won the On Day One national contest, a project of the Better World Campaign, which asked citizens to recommend agendas that Obama tackle when he takes office, according to Current Publishing. Eat the View won out of 4,000 ideas with a total of 3,994 votes, beating out the second-place idea, Create Cabinet-level Department of Peace, which received 1,562 votes. Ondayone.org organizers are planning to have Doiron meet with Obama's staff sometime after the inauguration, according to the paper.
