Wind developer considers Sisk Mt.

The developer of a 44-turbine wind power project in Franklin County may add 14 turbines to that project on nearby Sisk Mountain.

A subsidiary of TransCanada Corp. has submitted an application to the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission to install up to four meteorological poles on the 3,245-foot mountain to study the wind there, according to the Sun Journal. "This is a very preliminary step and does not necessarily mean that we will seek approval to construct an additional project," TransCanada spokeswoman Cecily Dobson told the paper.

TransCanada Maine Wind Development Inc. is currently building a $320 million wind power project on Kibby Mountain and Kibby Range, and turbines on Sisk Mountain could be an extension of TransCanada's permit for the Kibby site, the paper reported. The wind-study application is expected to be processed in a few weeks.
