Wind farm proposed for Midcoast

Two companies are vying to build as many as two dozen wind turbines in Waldo and Penobscot counties.

Boston-based Citizens Wind, a subsidiary of Citizens Energy Corp., and Mt. Harris Wind LLC, a subsidiary of Portland-based Competitive Energy Services, presented their plans to residents in Jackson this week, according to VillageSoup. Both companies are proposing a wind farm that would stretch along a ridge that spans Dixmont, Jackson and Thorndike, and both have already secured leases with various property owners.

The companies said the turbines would not be operational until 2010 or 2011. Competitive Energy Services recently completed a three-turbine wind farm on Beaver Ridge in Freedom, which is expected to soon be operational.
