Winter is coming: Sunday River, down a ski lift, begins snowmaking
Sunday River is gearing up for the upcoming ski season as the Newry ski area began snowmaking operations on Monday, but the company says it will be down one ski lift this winter.
Over the summer, the Spruce Peak Triple ski lift failed and fell down, ultimately needing to be replaced, but Sunday River’s communications director, Darcy Lambert, told Maine Public that replacing the ski lift will have to wait.
"In looking at that timeline and the factors involved, we decided we would wait until after this winter," Lambert told Maine Public. "This would allow us to keep the terrain open, and guests would still be able to access all Spruce Peak terrain by way of the Aurora Peak quad."
But don’t fret slope lovers — Spruce Peak is still being prepped for the season and will still be accessible with a short walk from Aurora Peak’s lift.
