Sheridan Construction of Portland has been multitasking. It recently started construction on the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville; Charlie's Honda in Augusta; and a Waste Management of New Hampshire facility in Rochester, N.H. Ongoing projects include the Mid-Coast School of Technology in Rockland; the new public works facility in Greene; the Lewiston Readiness Center (for the Maine National Guard); the Redington-Fairview General Hospital's MRI building in Skowhegan; and Spurwink's Chelsea campus. Recently completed projects include the J.B. Brown warehouse at 15 Saunders Way in Westbrook (part of which is leased to Maine Beer Co.); the Enercon Technologies headquarters in Gray; Ducktrap River of Maine's Belfast expansion; and an addition for Federal Distributors in Lewiston.
Ledgewood Construction of South Portland has been awarded the contract to build the new Kate Furbish Elementary School on Jordan Avenue in Brunswick. Construction is expected to start this season and continue through August 2020. That would put the school on track to open for the 2020-21 school year.
J.F. Scott Construction, a Winthrop-based contractor, completed restoration of the floor of the Colonial Theater in Augusta. The work is part of the $8.5 million renovation of the historic theater, vacant since 1969.
PM Construction Co. of Saco managed construction of the TAO Greenhouse, an aquaponics facility in Brunswick. The greenhouse will supply year-round food for the restaurant group Eighty-Ate Hospitality (Tao Yuan, Bao Bao Dumpling House and Lio). Canopy Farms L3C, which was developed by restaurant owners Cara and Cecile Stadler and greenhouse manager Kate Holcomb, will manage the site. The greenhouse will also have a café.
Langford & Low Construction of Portland managed construction of the Cabins in the Woods on the campus of Togus VA Medical Center in Chelsea. Other contractors involved included Robert Foster Architects, Portland; Sebago Technics, South Portland; SRG Engineering, Gray; Mechanical Systems Engineers, Yarmouth; and Swiftcurrent Engineering, Yarmouth. Cabin in the Woods has 21 one- and two-bedroom residences for Maine veterans. The $4.2 million project was a collaboration between Volunteers of America Northern New England and MaineHousing.
Landry/French Construction Co., a commercial contractor in Scarborough, hired Mark Purty as senior project superintendent, Mike LaPointe as a project superintendent and Brian Donovan as assistant superintendent. Purty was previously with Walsh Brothers while LaPointe and Donovan were with PC Construction.
Patco Construction of Sanford partnered with Waban, a nonprofit that supports adults and children with special needs, to build and install a playground structure at Waban's school facility, the Fraser-Ford Child Development Center in Sanford. The children's center provides full-day, therapeutic resources and curriculum to children with pervasive developmental disorder and autism, from preschool through second grade.
