A Bar Harbor hotelier has added two more motels to his cache of hospitality properties in the area.
David Witham recently purchased the 12-room Rockhurst Motel and the 63-room Villager Motel, both in Bar Harbor, according to the Bangor Daily News. He did not disclose the exact purchase prices, but said they were close to the town's assessed values, which are $718,100 for the Rockhurst and nearly $2 million for the Villager. Witham plans to renovate the Rockhurst this winter, rename it the Aurora Motel and put it under the same management as his nearby Aurora Inn. He has no plans to make changes to the Villager Motel, he told the paper.
Witham is Hancock County's biggest hotel owner with stakes in more than a dozen properties. Last year, he bought the Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn in Ellsworth, the White Birches hotel and golf course in Hancock and the Best Western in Salisbury. He also owns the Bar Harbor Inn, the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Conference Center and the Best Western Acadia Park Inn in Bar Harbor.
