A 29-year-old instructor at a Kennebunk Zumba studio has been indicted on 106 counts that include alleged prostitution, violation of privacy and 15 related tax crimes.
The Journal Tribune reports that Alexis Wright, 29, of Wells, was charged for the crimes authorities believe she committed while operating the Pura Vida Studio, where an investigation began after anonymous tipsters told police they heard rumors of prostitution at the business.
After a five-month investigation, police have brought their case against Wright, which includes 59 misdemeanor counts involving prostitution, violation of privacy, promoting prostitution, conspiracy to promote prostitution and conspiracy to commit violation of privacy.
The investigation of the case has also involved the owner of a Thomaston insurance company — Mark W. Strong Sr. — who faces a charge of promotion of prostitution, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The paper also reported that the state could charge up to 100 people named in a "client list" investigators discovered. So far, Strong is the only other person charged in the case.
