Peter Hayes: President & CEO of the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance of Maine
Peter Hayes currently the President & CEO of the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance of Maine and formerly a principal of Healthcare Solutions and Director of Associate Health and Wellness at Hannaford Supermarkets. He has been recognized as a thought leader in innovative, strategic benefit design for the past 25+ years. He has received numerous national awards in recognition of his commitment to working collaboratively with healthcare providers and vendors in delivering health benefits that are focused on value (high quality efficient care). He has been successful in this arena by focusing on innovative solutions for patient advocacy, chronic disease management, and health promotion programs.
Peter has also been involved in health care reform leadership roles on both the national and regional levels with organizations like Center for Health Innovation, Care Focused Purchasing, Leapfrog, co-founder of the Maine Health Management Coalition, and been appointed by two different Maine Governors to serve on Health Care Reform Commissions to recommend public policies to improve the access and affordability of health care for Maine citizens.
Pat Keran: Vice President, Product & Innovation for UnitedHealthcare
Pat Keran is Vice President, Product & Innovation, for UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group business. He has responsibility for the strategy, growth and refinement of telehealth solutions for people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare’s employer-sponsored and individual health plans. Pat’s focus is developing telehealth solutions that expand access to quality, cost-effective medical services, with applications spanning various types of care (e.g., urgent, primary, chronic, specialty and remote patient monitoring).
During his more than 15 years with UnitedHealth Group, Pat has held a variety of leadership positions involving strategy, data analytics, and program and product development, with a concentration on the use of technology to improve the health system and better serve consumers and employers. Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, he held leadership roles focused on technology with Target Corp. and NCR Corp.
He holds a Masters Certificate in information technology project management from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in General Management from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management. He has been quoted in numerous national and trade media outlets, and is a frequent speaker at industry conference and events, including the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Pat is based in Minneapolis and serves on the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management, Management Information Systems Department board and the board of directors for The Bakken Museum. He also volunteers with local high schools on college preparation and career planning.
Martin Wesolowski, DO, MBA: Health Plan Medical Director for Martin’s Point Health Care
Dr. Wesolowski is a family medicine physician living in two worlds: those of the provider and the payer. In his current role, he serves Martin’s Point Medicare Advantage and TRICARE® plan members by forging relationships with network providers to achieve strategic goals in pursuit of the Triple Aim. Recently, this means innovating to maintain the health and quality of care for patients and members during the current Public Health Emergency.
Dr. Wesolowski began his clinical practice at the Martin’s Point Gorham Health Care Center in 2011 practicing full-spectrum family medicine, including non-operative obstetrics. His leadership roles have included managing the Gorham primary care practice, coaching and mentoring a team of family medicine providers, and leading health plan strategic projects focused on quality of care, risk adjustment, and care management. An idealist, he looks for new ways to positively influence both the health plan and the clinical sides of health care every day.
Dr. Wesolowski earned a Healthcare MBA from The Isenberg School of Management at UMass, his medical degree from Western University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, and his undergraduate degree in Geology from Middlebury College.
Joanne Rawlings-Sekunda, Director of the Consumer Health Care Division of the Maine Bureau of Insurance
Joanne Rawlings-Sekunda has been the Director of the Consumer Health Care Division of the Maine Bureau of Insurance since 2015. She joined the Bureau as the Division’s Deputy Director in 2001. She is actively involved in a broad range of regulatory, consumer protection, and policy matters related to insurance for health, life, disability, and long-term care. During her tenure at the Bureau she has worked on plan management activities related to both the Affordable Care Act, and to Maine's home-grown efforts to improve the healthcare system. In 2020, she helped formulate the Bureau’s Emergency Orders directing health plans during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also a member of the Public Sector Advisory Council for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
