The soaring seven-story structure will be the future home of Northeastern University’s Roux Institute, which is projected to welcome graduate students for the spring 2028 semester.

The team canceled two home games in Portland this weekend and warned that that additional games could be called off amid a players’ strike over the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with the ECHL minor league.

Games scheduled for this weekend at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland could be postponed if a threatened hockey players' strike goes ahead.

The new contract provides for stipend increases, health insurance benefits and free tuition for the 900 workers represented by the union.

In January, employees voted to join Local 114, setting off months of bargaining aimed at reaching a fair contract for stagehands and stage technicians.

RNs called a two-day strike to address concerns about staffing and patient care. The hospital said it’s “committed to bargaining in good faith and finalizing a contract that supports both staff and patients.”

"We will continue to work with faculty moving forward to strengthen Thomas, the head of the school's board of trustees, said in a statement emailed to Mainebiz.

"Forming a union is really a first step," said Jono Anzalone, an assistant professor of economics at the Waterville school.

Nurses at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent and at Houlton Regional Hospital are bargaining for their first union contract since voting to join the Maine State Nurses Association in January 2024.

Unemployment also continues to undershoot the state’s 5.4% long-term average since 1976, when Gerald Ford was president and the film "All the President’s Men” was released in cinemas.
