The current issue of Mainebiz focuses on corporate responsibility, including the efforts many businesses have recently made to expand diversity, equity and inclusion within their organizations.

In 2020, while some people were even denying the existence of systemic racism, hundreds of Maine employers signed a pledge to fight it.

In 2021, a year after the death of George Floyd, a Mainebiz poll asked whether Maine and Maine businesses had made any headway in combating racism. Our survey drew over 160 responses, which were almost evenly divided.

    Businesses don't care about your sex, your sexuality, your race, or your religion. What do we care about? Show up to work every day, do your job, and be a good teammate to your fellow employees.

    This question is like askng "when did you stop beating your wife?" It implies there was a problem in the first place. There may have been isolated issues, but as a whole, Maine had always been a welcoming place. There was a reason the slogan was "Maine - the way life should be." Stop listening to the race hustlers and just conduct business.

    Until agencies like the Maine Human Rights Commission and DRME step up and really become proactive and truly supportive of minorities and disabled persons, nothing will change meaningfully for another 100 years. They consistently dodge cases they don't want or they obscure due process. You would think that in a human rights case, both parties should take an oath and all testimony taken under oath. Nope. Just the complainant takes the oath. Way to go Lady Justice.
