On May 24, Maine ended public health requirements for the use of face coverings, and many businesses have embraced the change as a welcome return to "normalcy." But some aren't quite ready to make the transition.

Mask mandates set by businesses themselves continue to trump the state policy, and on Sunday a variety of Maine restaurants, retailers and other businesses still required the coverings for customers and employees. At other establishments, customers wore masks even though none were required.

The new state policy also continues to recommend that people who are not fully vaccinated wear face coverings in indoor public settings.

    Yes, I continue to wear a face mask indoors if: the business asks me to, it feels crowded, the ventilation seems poor, I'm with my 11-year-old daughter (solidarity), or if I simply feel like it.
