As Black Friday shopping got underway last week, news broke about what may be an unwelcome holiday visitor— the omicron variant of COVID-19. While much is unknown about this version of the virus, the 30-plus mutations in omicron could make it highly contagious.

On Monday morning, no cases had yet been reported in the U.S. But the variant had already prompted international travel bans and a state of emergency in New York.

Why talk about the omicron variant when the Delta variant has our daily cases, death rate, and hospitalizations at or above the peak numbers from the beginning of the year? Online retailing, and supply chain issues (seriously, go in the stores and look around at the sparse inventory) are what will control the Christmas purse strings this year. Go spend time with your family and friends. Enjoy the holiday season!
