Nearly one-third of Americans are starting off 2022 with a set of New Year's resolutions, according to a CBS News poll.

But that figure is far lower than the 43% who resolved to begin 2021 with the annual to-do lists. Or the 42% who made New Year's resolutions the year before, on the eve of the pandemic.

The downturn does not necessarily mean Americans are feeling down about the next 12 months, CBS found. In fact, when describing their outlook on both 2022 and 2021, roughly seven in 10 poll participants described themselves as "hopeful."

But among those who felt that way this year, the percentage who made resolutions fell sharply, from 46% to 30%.

After the Covid lockdowns, if you have not started eating better, exercising more, etc., you probably are not going to do it. A good resolution is like a crying baby in church. You should carry it out immediately! Happy New Year
