A National Retail Federation survey from Sept. 1-8 predicted that American consumers will spend $10.14 billion on Halloween-related items in 2021, an all-time high and up from $8.05 billion in 2020.
An estimated 65% of Americans said they intended to celebrate Halloween this year, an increase from 58% in 2020 and comparable with 68% in 2019, before the pandemic.
But concerns have grown in recent weeks about the COVID-19 delta variant, as Maine's infection rates have climbed to levels not seen since April. And that could put a scare into Halloween plans.
