Maine's most valuable fishery became even more valuable in 2021, with an annual lobster catch worth $725 million, the Department of Marine Resources announced last week.
Lobster landings increased 10%, and higher prices-per-pound drove the value of the year's catch up 76% over the 2020 level. Previously, the 2016 harvest was the most valuable on record, at $541 million.
Lobster is a traditional favorite at Maine seafood restaurants, but the pandemic has also spurred the industry to market the crustacean as a home-cooked dish.
