Maine is building big these days.

As the new issue of Mainebiz highlights, construction companies, engineering firms, architects and other businesses are busy.

The boom has persisted despite the pandemic, driven in part by the demand for residential and commercial real estate. In Portland, steel is climbing skyward at the job site for what's expected to become Maine's tallest building. But there's other work, too, such as the $150 million build-out of the LP wood-siding mill in New Limerick.

Rising interest rates are cooling off the home market, at least a little. And construction crews are desperately looking for new workers. Meanwhile, the busy pace continues.

Is Maine in danger of 'overbuilding,' creating too much real estate or infrastructure for the changing economy?
Yes (31%, 82 VOTES)
