The Pine Tree Development Zone program was created by the Legislature in 2003 to give state income tax credits and sales tax exemptions to Maine businesses that create jobs with higher-than-average wages in certain industries. A February public hearing about renewing PTDZ drew supporters like the Maine State Chamber, which said it's meeting the goal of creating jobs. Detractors over the years, however, have said the program hasn't contribute meaningfully to job creation and economic development.

We should lower Income taxes for S-Corps & C Corps giving them funds to train & hire more people in private industries. rather than letting government choose winner and losers -- Also cut back on grants to non-profit organizations that are not directly helping people in honest need for food, shelter, medical etc.

What is the evidence that it is working as it should? It should be an easy matter to see if those who were given exemptions actually created jobs at higher than average wages. If they haven't then stop the program. Pretty simple.
