While the housing problem is expected to get worse, the best solution is for municipalities to make it easier for more housing develop of all kinds, particularly ADUs, duplexes and fourplexes which are now permitted and supported by state law. It’s a supply and demand issue, and prices will not come down until supply exceeds demand. This is true of all housing types.

The ability for people, especially younger recent graduates from universities, or lower income families, families with high child care costs, etc, to find affordable housing is a big hindrance in be able to work in our state. Those who would like to work here, in their home state, cannot find cost effective housing. Many have had to seriously consider moving to southern states where housing is less costly. Could be a serious problem for the future of Maine.

The shortage will depend on how many people move to the state or away from the state. I for one can't wait to be able to move to a state where people's freedoms are celebrated instead of draconian lockdowns and a disregard for what is needed and best for the people that live in Maine.
