Poll results

Businesspeople everywhere are using The “R” Word.

Is a recession coming? The U.S. is overdue for a recession, isn’t it? How bad will the next recession be?

In a national poll of economists, released Monday, 3 out of 4 surveyed said the U.S. would enter an economic recession by 2021. One of the likely causes, many predict: the ongoing trade war with China.

That war has already produced casualties in the state’s lobster industry. And back in January, some Maine business leaders we interviewed raised the possibility that the economy might soon begin contracting.

Not so, says President Donald Trump, who has been tweeting about it in glowing terms as recently as Tuesday morning. But behind the scenes, he and his administration are also reportedly trying to stave off a slowdown.

Amid all the forecasts and confusion, Mainebiz is turning to you, our readers, for your predictions.

I doubt it unless certain groups do whatever they can to try and undermine the economy and make it happen. Trump haters can't stand the fact that the economy is doing so well and will stop at nothing to take him down and they don't care how much of our tax dollars they spend to do it. If people would let market forces work, then everyone will be better off. The tariffs should have been dealt with years ago as the USA has been getting the short end of the stick for a long time.

I think as long folks keep saying we are going into a recession, we will go into a recession because everyone will behave like we are and create a recession like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
