The development of a successful vaccine typically takes years, but the life sciences industry is trying to come up with one for COVID-19 in months.

While most vaccine R&D is taking place elsewhere, Maine companies and organizations are pulling off other seemingly impossible feats in response to the pandemic.

As Mainebiz has reported, Abbott Laboratories, IDEXX, the Jackson Laboratory and Puritan Medical Products have all made huge pivots in order to accelerate COVID-19 testing. Smaller businesses such as American Roots, Flowfold and even Pittsfield-based clerical vestment maker CM Almy are turning out PPE.

Some industry advocates and politicians predict vaccine makers will have similar success.

Yes (25%, 25 VOTES)

You must define "successfully develop" and "launch"... success needs to be measured in time (6-12 months of no infections post inoculation), thus answer to your question is no. If "launch" means 100+ million dosages administered, then answer to your question is also no. Now, if you could download it to your phone and administer it to yourself ...
