Full Plates Full Potential will continue our critical work to expand the reach of child nutrition programs in Maine. This fall we will support the implementation of the landmark School Meals for All legislation that we led the charge on and which goes into effect this school year. We also will continue to support the successful adoption of previous legislative efforts including expanding local foods in schools, bringing afterschool meals to more kids, and spurring adoption of the best practice Breakfast After the Bell model. We will do this through providing technical assistance to programs alongside $625,000 in implementation and support grants that we anticipate awarding over the course of the year. We are also launching a data project aimed at helping the field better understand the current state of child hunger in Maine now, two years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to combining existing quantitative and qualitative data with new information we will gather to publish a public report that more fully and accurately paints a picture of what is happening today. Finally, as we approach a new legislative session, we look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders to identify the most pressing opportunities for policy changes to positively impact child nutrition in the state, developing our policy priorities and lobbying for their successful passage and implementation.
We have a variety of cause marketing opportunities available to businesses of all sizes and industries. Our FEED KIDS initiative invites purpose-driven Maine businesses to take action towards ending child hunger by leveraging their brand to raise funds and awareness for the cause. This can look like an ongoing commitment to donate to Full Plates in connection with a specific sales item or other activation, or can happen on a smaller scale through one-off opportunities. We also hope to hold one or more larger-scale traditional fundraising events as we did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but continue to assess the potential here due to the lingering effects of the pandemic.
Full Plates relies fully on philanthropic support to achieve our mission. To that end we welcome collaborations with companies and foundations whose social responsibility imperatives include hunger relief, education, healthy living, youth empowerment and poverty reduction. One-time and multi-year investment opportunities are available and customizable to meet mutual goals and objectives. Additionally, Full Plates conducts traditional fundraising appeals several times annually to support our critical programs. We welcome matching gifts from companies as a powerful incentive to accelerate individual donors’ generosity during these campaigns while highlighting your company’s commitment to Maine’s next generation.
Full Plates Full Potential is not a direct services organization and therefore does not have traditional volunteer opportunities, but we need your voice! We challenge individuals and businesses to amplify the issue of childhood hunger and Full Plates’ strategies to solve it. Share our work on your social media channels. Encourage your employees/employer and/or the businesses you do business with to join the cause. Invite your friends, followers and clients to make a donation to make a difference for Maine kids who are counting on all of us to address this urgent, but solvable problem.
