At Girl Scouts of Maine (GSME), over 5,000 girls from across our state are discovering their passions, connecting with their community, and taking action to make the world a better place. Alongside over 3,500 volunteers, we are empowering girls, creating adventures, changing communities, and building skills for this generation of leaders.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience offers girls in grades K-12 the opportunity to take on leadership roles and learn-by-doing in a safe, fun, and cooperative environment – inspiring them to accept challenges and overcome obstacles, now and always.
This unique experience is grounded in three processes and built on four program pillars – STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship:
Girl-Led: Girl Scouts take the lead, no matter their age. From selecting badges in STEM like robotics to planning outdoor adventures, they follow their dreams and grow their skills – gaining confidence with each step.
Learning by Doing: Hands-on activities empower Girl Scouts to shape their own experiences. Whether they’re advocating for a cause to earn a Life Skills badge or designing a toy business in the Entrepreneurship pillar, they develop an “I got this” attitude and resilience.
Cooperative Learning: There’s power in a tight-knit group of friends who learn, grow, and cheer each other on. From team-building exercises outdoors to planning an international troop trip, Girl Scouts experience firsthand how teamwork, respect, and collaboration fuel them through any challenge.
This leadership experience helps Girl Scouts discover who they are, what they care about, and what they’re capable of achieving.
Deliver programming and support members in achieving our Girl Scout Leadership Experience Outcomes for every girl member: Strong Sense of Self, Positive Values, Challenge Seeking, Healthy Relationships, and Community Problem Solving.
Prioritize mental health through innovative mental wellness resources, programming, and training curated specifically to support girls and the adults who interact with them through Girl Scouts.
Amplify programming for older Girl Scouts including international and domestic travel, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and our Highest Awards – the Girl Scout Gold and Silver Awards.
Create new, and expand existing, partnerships with local organizations, business leaders, and volunteers focusing on workforce development and mentorship opportunities for Girl Scouts in middle and high school.
Increase membership and ensure every girl in Maine has access, welcoming and respecting diversity of all kinds so girls of all economic, racial/ethnic, and religious backgrounds; sexual orientations; and abilities come together to grow and learn from one another’s unique experiences.
Local businesses and individuals can support girls through our events including Transforming Leadership Conference, Green ME Up, Pearls of Wisdom, and more.
