Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence

2025 Goals

Advocating for policies that will help survivors of violence, hold abusive people to account, and create social change to end abuse. Recent successes include collaborating to strengthen Maine’s system for firearms relinquishment when required by civil court orders and updating the standards for Certified Domestic Violence Intervention Programs.

Providing learning opportunities for advocates and others working with survivors of domestic abuse. Our members serve 15,000 people each year, and we help them do the very best work they can do – particularly when the needs of survivors have gotten increasingly complex.

Providing direct assistance to survivors and their children statewide. Through the Liberation Fund, survivors can access a flexible, direct source of financial assistance for needs like transportation, safety measures, utility bills and more. To date, over 1,500 survivors have accessed the fund through our network of members.

Increasing the public’s understanding of the factors that drive domestic abuse – and how they can take action to help. In 2023, MCEDV provided 107 trainings for over 2,171 professionals – including nurses, clergy, child welfare workers, law enforcement, mental health providers and others – in effectively responding to domestic abuse and violence. This year we are adapting to create engaging online learning experiences.

Our members provide services for people affected by domestic abuse and violence, dating abuse, stalking, elder abuse and sex trafficking and exploitation. The regional Domestic Violence Resource Centers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, via 24-hour helplines. Our culturally specific members offer services tailored to the needs of immigrant, refugee, asylum-seeking and BIPOC communities.

Focusing on issues of equity and access. In 2024, MCEDV will continue expanding our efforts to ensure that interventions for abuse are available to all and that underrepresented communities have a voice at the table.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

MCEDV and our member organizations host public outreach events throughout the year to sustain our missions and raise awareness about the impact of domestic abuse and violence in our communities. We frequently partner with those who wish to support our work by running a gift drive or benefit event on our behalf. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to learn more about upcoming events.

MCEDV’s member organizations host several fundraising and outreach events throughout the year. Visit your local DVRC website to learn more.

Giving Opportunities

The Liberation Fund is a flexible, survivor-driven source of direct financial assistance which is entirely funded by private donations and foundation giving in Maine. Through our network of members, domestic violence survivors can access resources for their needs.

MCEDV and each of our local members relies on philanthropic contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations to provide the most robust support to survivors and to advocate for systems that hold offenders accountable.
