Our primary goal is to provide comprehensive hospice care to people with a prognosis of six months or less to live, and their families. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, hospice aides, grief counselors, chaplains and volunteers. It focuses on meeting the patient’s end-of-life goals, including pain control, symptom management and emotional, social and spiritual support as needed or desired. Financial support from the community allows us to care for anyone needing our services, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. In the past 20 years, we have cared for more than 25,000 people in our community, at home or Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Hospice of Southern Maine hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Anyone may attend and business sponsorship is welcomed. Sponsorships range from $250 to $10,000 and include marketing benefits.
20th Anniversary Campaign – Celebrating 20 years of award-winning care in our community. Funds raised will support much-needed improvements at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and general operations.
Twilight in the Park (Sept. 28, 2024) – A remembrance event held every September in Deering Oaks Park. At dusk, thousands of personalized luminarias illuminate the Park. Open to the community.
Hike for Hospice (Oct. 26, 2024) - A fun hike on the Eastern Trail.
Thresholds Conference – A community education conference held each May focusing on various end-of-life topics such as starting conversations about end-of-life wishes, caregiving, grief, etc.
Naming opportunities – leave a legacy by naming a room or space, $10,000 and up.
Event sponsorship – Gain promotional and marketing benefits while also supporting a great cause! Three annual events offer sponsorship opportunities with benefits, $250 and up.
Special campaigns – make a gift to the 20th Anniversary Campaign this year and be recognized publicly on plaques, website, e-newsletters and in our Annual Report, $1,000 and up.
Annual Fund – support our general operations with a gift to the Annual Fund at any level. This can be a gift in memory of someone or simply a thank you for the service we provide.
Throw your own fundraiser – Many groups donate proceeds from golf tournaments, pub crawls, concerts, art shows and other types of fundraisers they host.
* Donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized as a Circle of Caring member in our Annual Report, and on any relevant signage, as appropriate.
Our hospice volunteers play various important roles in helping to carry out our mission. Some provide non-medical aid and support to patients in home hospice or at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Others provide service with tasks such as assisting with special events and fundraising activities, mailings and indirect patient care.
