Waban’s newly adopted strategic plan encourages and celebrates an inclusive and self-empowered workforce, with an emphasis on transparency, integrity and accountability. As responsible stewards of our financial and other resources, Waban supports diversity, fairness and inclusion in order to align the work environment with those ideals. We continue to adapt and acclimate to current employment conditions and actively seek advanced solutions to attract and retain employees. Specifically, in the past year, we’ve committed to providing workforce housing, so our employees have stable and safe housing. We’re actively innovating new, more flexible work schedules and have expanded access to educational opportunities. This summer we provided lifeguards, which enabled our lakefront area to be accessible to staff, their families and our adult services Members for fishing, boating, swimming or kayaking. Waban’s Shared Living is another successful new initiative. Matching people with homes to share with individuals who have intellectual disabilities offers a stable family environment, income and a sense of pride for our shared living providers.

Annually our volunteers log hundreds of hours maintaining Waban’s campus, which includes handicapped-accessible trails, an historic waterfront area and playgrounds at our Fraser Ford Child Development Center. Numerous volunteers, many through area businesses seeking to give back, volunteer their time to weed, rake and mulch and help maintain our trails and grounds. Contact us at connect@waban.org to check out our volunteering opportunities.
