10 apply for state health exchange job

Whether Maine plans to set up its own health care exchange under a new federal law remains unclear, but the state is hiring one staff member to help state agencies comply with the new law.

The Portland Press Herald reported that 10 people have applied for the position as a "health exchange coordinator" for the state.

Gov. Paul LePage has said that Maine won't set up its own health care marketplace under the federal Affordable Care Act.

State officials told the paper that, despite the job title advertised, the new state position won't coordinate Maine's own health care exchange but will help state agencies manage a federal exchange expected to launch sometime before Oct. 31, 2013.
