The front page of the April 3, 2006, issue of Mainebiz featured a story, "Under new management," that looked at executives on the move. One of them was Michelle Hood, who was named CEO of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, now known as Northern Light Health.
Hood also made the front page in 2010, when she was named a Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year, being cited for patient safety work and commitment to rural health care. Now, after nearly 14 years leading Northern Light, she will leave in early 2020 to become chief operating officer at the American Hospital Association, which represents 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
Fun fact: The Dec. 23, 2013, issue of Mainebiz reported that the company owning the Freedom mill in Waldo County received a $49,500 grant to help pay for a hydropower system at the adjacent dam. The power, in turn, would run the mill and provide electricity to “current and future tenants of the mill building.” One of the future tenants turned out to be Freedom Kitchen, Erin French’s popular restaurant.
