After seven months of doing business in Saco, Ziggi’s Coffee, a franchise company that started in Colorado, has closed its sole Maine coffee shop.
Brandon Knudsen, co-founder and CEO of Ziggi’s Coffee, told Mainebiz on Tuesday that the owners of the Saco branch have shut down operations for the foreseeable future. Knudsen said he doesn't have any information about a possible reopening.
The shop has been closed since Oct. 17, when the owners posted on social media that they were closing temporarily and would look for a solution to allow them to resume business.
“We can confirm our Saco location is temporarily closed,” said the social media post. “We deeply appreciate the support and connections we’ve built with the community and are working diligently to find a solution that will allow us to reopen as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.”
Ziggi's Coffee opened its first and only Maine store on Feb. 20 at 3 Waterfall Drive in Saco, near the Scarborough town line.
The coffee shop was new construction and broke ground in September 2023. The building is 1,000 square feet. The shop had a drive-thru, walk-up windows and seasonal outdoor seating.
Ziggi’s Coffee shops are independently owned and operated by a network of franchisees. The Saco franchisee is listed as RHPEC 2 Holidings LLC.
Ziggi’s Coffee was founded in 2004 by Brandon and Camrin Knudsen in downtown Longmont, Colo., north of Denver. The business has since grown into a drive-thru and coffee house chain. The company reportedly has around 75 locations in more than a dozen states, and opened 17 locations last year.
The company opened its first New Hampshire store, in Meredith, on Jan. 16.
Elsewhere in Saco, coffee shop franchises include Starbucks, Dunkin' and Aroma Joe's, which is opening a new location in the same area as Ziggi's.
