Geiger, a Lewiston-based promotional products distributor with roots going back nearly 150 years, has named David Geiger as the company’s next president, starting Jan. 1, 2025.
The 36-year-old, currently serving as vice president and general counsel, will be the sixth president and fifth from the family to lead the firm. He will do so in tandem with Jo-an Lantz, a non-relative who will step down as president but continue as CEO.
“Geiger’s foundation is built on a legacy of family values and a commitment to our associates, independent sales representatives, clients and the communities we serve,” David Geiger said in Tuesday’s announcement.
"I’m honored to continue working alongside Jo-an Lantz, whose leadership has guided us into exciting new markets and record sales. I look forward to building on our vision as a family-owned, global brand,” he added.
Beyond David Geiger’s corporate responsibilities, he serves on the company’s executive team and board of directors. He is active in the Institute for Family-Owned Business and serves on the boards of St. Mary's Health System in Androscoggin County, and Hoboken, N.J.-based Vagabond Spirits Co.
Lantz, who worked her way up from an entry-level bookkeeping job after college, became president in June 2018 and CEO in early 2019.
She was honored as a Mainebiz Woman to Watch this year for leading expansion at Geiger, the world’s largest promotional products distributor to be owned by a single family. The company employs more than 600 employees worldwide and works with 400 independent sales representatives.
“David brings a deep understanding of Geiger’s values and a progressive approach to our global operations,” Lantz said. "I am proud to be his partner in this important next step for Geiger. His leadership will help steer our team, and brand, into the next chapter while staying true to our values and culture.”
Gene Geiger, who is David's father, preceded Lantz as president and CEO and now chairs Geiger's board. He welcomed the upcoming leadership transition as a milestone for the business, whose roots go back to 1858 in Newark, N.J.
“Working with Jo-an and a superb management team, David is prepared to lead the company through its next era," Gene Geiger said. "I could not be more proud of David or more optimistic about our future."
Among Maine's largest family-owned businesses ranked in the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists, Geiger was ranked No. 11. Rankings were based on the number of employees in Maine. The 2025 edition will be published next month.
