AG confirms lobster price investigation

The Attorney General's Office has confirmed it is investigating allegations of price-fixing among lobster dealers.

Lobster dealers in Washington County told The Working Waterfront last month they had received summonses from the Attorney General's Office for documents pertaining to their purchase of lobster or shellfish since June 2008. The AG's office neither confirmed nor denied an ongoing investigation at that time, but Kate Simmons, a spokeswoman for the AG's office, now has confirmed the inquiry, prompted by a complaint letter signed by more than 50 lobstermen, according to the Associated Press. The investigation is in its early stages and will likely take months, she told the AP.

Simmons confirmed the AG's office has sent civil summonses to dealers, but wouldn't specify who they were or how many received the orders.
