Anthem, ConvenientMD offering free health care to select members in Maine

Anthem members with specific health care plans that select a ConvenientMD primary care provider will soon have no-cost access to ConvenientMD primary care, labs, X-rays and urgent care.

The announcement comes as Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and ConvenientMD work to expand primary care coverage in the state.

"We know that primary care is the gateway to the healthcare system, and as such, plays a critical role in identifying potential medical issues before they become severe – and costly," said Denise McDonough, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine. "While we know this to be the case, studies show declining primary care use in recent years."

Starting Jan. 1, Anthem members will also have access to same and next-day appointments, ConvenientMD urgent care clinics at all 25 locations in Maine, Portsmouth, N.H., a more personalized level of attention and a care team to help.

"We believe there should be no barriers between you and your good health. Our vision is to not only make primary care much more accessible and affordable, but also support you when you need services beyond primary care," said Gareth Dickens, CEO of ConvenientMD.

A Portland ConvenientMD location is slated to open in November at 211 Marginal Way, with additional sites in Maine planned for later in 2023.

Anthem and ConvenientMD are exploring the no-cost share benefit with additional ConvenientMD urgent care clinics and with other Anthem plans in 2024.
