Aiming to put more young Mainers on career pathways, the University of New England's College of Business will introduce three interdisciplinary majors this fall.
The business school, established last June, will add degree programs in accounting, finance and marketing.
The UNE College of Business also offers majors in business administration, marine entrepreneurship, sustainability and business, sport leadership and management. In November, the school launched a major in outdoor business and innovation to prepare students for careers in Maine’s $3 billion outdoor recreation industry.
Currently, about 200 business majors are enrolled in the College of Business, where Norm O'Reilly will begin serving as the inaugural dean on July 1.
UNE said its accounting degree program aims to equip students with modern techniques and technologies, while the finance program will prepare students for leadership roles in financial management, wealth management and investments while emphasizing social responsibility.
The marketing program will prepare students for careers at the intersection of culture and business, training them to adapt to new consumer behaviors through strategic planning and technology integration.
“These new academic programs reflect the University’s commitment to meeting evolving industry standards and workforce needs while preparing students for the dynamic challenges and opportunities they will encounter in these fields,” said Gwendolyn Mahon, UNE’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
“We are confident that our accounting, finance and marketing graduates will be well-equipped to make a positive impact in businesses of all kinds across Maine and the nation,” she added.
UNE has campuses in Biddeford, Portland and overseas, in Tangiers, Morocco.
