Fisher Phillips, an international labor and employment law firm, is expanding its national footprint with a new office in Portland with five partners.
Portland is one of the firm's 43 offices in the U.S. and Mexico. In a prepared release, the firm said the expansion is part of a strategy to strengthen its presence in New England. The firm will serve education, health care, life sciences, hospitality, retail, food and beverage and manufacturing industries.
Shiloh Theberge has extensive experience practicing labor and employment law. Throughout her career, Theberge has represented clients in federal and state courts before administrative agencies such as the Maine Human Rights Commission and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She brings over 15 years of experience representing employers and is consistently recognized by Chambers USA as a leading Maine labor and employment law practitioner. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor's degree from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.
Tara Walker provides labor and employment counsel to employers in complex litigation in state and federal courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Earlier in her career, Walker served as legal and policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska, where she spearheaded strategic litigation and lobbying for the Alaska ACLU. She has been regularly recognized by The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch and has been ranked among Super Lawyers' New England Rising Stars. Walker received her Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School, a master's in law from Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University.
Pawel Binczyk is a litigator in labor relations and crisis response. In addition to his private practice, Binczyk serves as a part-time Judge Advocate for the Maine Army National Guard. Earlier in his career, Binczyk was an active-duty Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army JAG Corps for six years, focusing on felonies and special victims cases. He was selected to oversee the Army's prosecution of sexual assault cases and helped create the Army's first pilot program, the Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Resource Center. Binczyk received his Juris Doctor from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and his bachelor's degree from Amherst College. He serves as a director and executive committee member of Boots2Roots, a nonprofit connecting Maine businesses with military personnel looking to transition from active duty.
Geoffrey Forney has over 18 years of experience in government service and private practice. Prior to joining Fisher Phillips, Forney was a trial lawyer for the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor in Washington, D.C. He also served in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, Office of Immigration Litigation. Forney received his Juris Doctor and master's from Temple University and his bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
Chris Stief will be relocating from the firm's office in Philadelphia to Portland. Before returning to Maine, Stief spent 30 years in Philadelphia, including as the founding regional managing partner of the Fisher Phillips Philadelphia office from 2007 through 2024 and regional managing partner of the firm's Pittsburgh office from 2019 to 2021. He also actively engages with the firm's international practice group and financial services industry team. Stief has previously co-chaired the labor and employment law committees for the Philadelphia and Delaware County Bar Associations.
