Traffic on a busy stretch of Western Avenue/Route 9 in Kennebunk’s lower village will be restricted during weekdays starting Monday, March 31, to accommodate upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure.
Sebago Technics, of South Portland, will provide engineering on the project, while Berwick-based N.M. Curtis Earth Works Inc. will replace sewer lines and reconstruct the road surface.
During the work, a 0.3-mile section of Western Avenue will be closed to through traffic from 55 Western Ave., near Mike’s All-Day Breakfast, to the intersection of Route 9 and Beach Avenue, known as Coopers Corner.
Local residents, business traffic and deliveries and emergency vehicles will not be restricted during the construction, and the road will be open to normal traffic patterns on weekends. The project is expected to be completed by May 16.
Kennebunk Sewer District and Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Wells Water District will provide flaggers and signage for detour routes.
