Attorney General sues two home contractors
Maine Attorney General William Schneider has filed lawsuits against two home repair contractors for taking money from consumers and failing to deliver services as promised.
Schneider filed a suit March 8 in Cumberland County Superior Court against Daniel Tucci, of Portland, advertised as "Dan the Handyman" in local newspapers, that alleges Tucci collected payments in advance but failed to perform the promised home repair services, according to a press release. The Attorney General's Office launched an investigation into Tucci after receiving a complaint from Legal Services for the Elderly alleging that he targeted elderly victims. Homeowners said that when Tucci was confronted about the lack of progress or poor quality of the repairs, he responded with threats and bullying.
Schneider last month filed a lawsuit in York County Superior Court against Joel Poirier that alleges his Buxton-based home construction and repair business took down payments for work that he never finished. The suit follows the U.S. Bankruptcy Court's dismissal of his Chapter 13 petition.
The lawsuits seek to prohibit Tucci and Poirier from acting as general contractors in Maine, providing goods or services and taking any money in advance from consumers. They also seek restitution for the affected consumers, as well as penalties and other fees.
