Auburn sauce maker sold

The parent company of an Auburn sauce-making operation has sold it to a Japanese condiment manufacturer.

Mizkan Americans, the U.S. subsidiary of The Mizkan Group, has bought World Harbors Sauces & Marinades from its parent company, Trinidad-based Angostura Ltd., according to a press release from Mizkan. Based at the Kittyhawk Industrial Park, World Harbors makes marinades, sauces and drink mixers that are distributed nationwide. Originally founded in Winthrop in 1990 as C.V. Finer Foods, the company was sold to Angostura in 2000, according to an online company profile. The company employs 40 people in Auburn, according to the Sun Journal.

Mizkan will continue to market and distribute the World Harbors sauces, and has exclusive distribution rights for Angostura drink mixers, aromatic bitters for drinks and sauces in the United States, according to the release. The purchase price was not disclosed. Mizkan Americas has 13 manufacturing facilities in the United States, and The Mizkan Group has $1.65 billion in annual gross sales, according to the Sun Journal.
