J.S. McCarthy Printers, an Augusta-based company, has acquired a printing company in Stamford, Connecticut, as part of its business growth strategy.

The National Association for Printing Leadership announced J.S. McCarthy’s acquisition of  Printech today after advising the company through its Business Advisory Group. The deal will give J.S. McCarthy access to Printech’s customer base and some of its assets.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

Printech will continue to operate from its Stamford location, with co-owners Carmine Furci and Ed Furci joining J.S. McCarthy’s management team, focusing on manufacturing and sales.

“J.S. McCarthy is a great example of a forward-thinking company that is positioning itself for future success and growth,” Tom Cobery, vice president of the printing leadership association, said in a prepared statement.

Rick Tardiff, CEO of J.S. McCarthy, told Mainebiz in a 2012 interview that the company has made major investments in technology since 2007 to help it attract more long-distance customers.

“Today, 65% of our business is outside of Maine; back then [2007] it was less but still significant,” Tardiff said at the time. “We knew if we wanted to grow, we had to get outside of Maine, and there tended to be pushback from people who were used to having their work done locally. … By employing technology, we broke down that distance barrier.”
