Augusta man sues Sears

An Iranian-born Augusta resident has filed a federal lawsuit against Sears, claiming his supervisor discriminated against him for his race and religion.

Kaveh Khansar Nejad, a devout Seventh-day Adventist, filed the suit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor, alleging his supervisor called him a terrorist, used racial slurs against him and denounced his religious views, according to the Associated Press. The suit also claims the supervisor unfairly denied him pay raises and promotions. Nejad is seeking back pay, damages and attorney fees, as well as an injunction ordering Sears to ensure other employees aren't discriminated against.

A Sears spokesman told the AP the company does not comment on pending litigation.
