Baldacci meets with Obama

Gov. John Baldacci and most of the country's governors will join President-elect Barack Obama today in a closed-door meeting in Philadelphia.

The gathering through the National Governors Association will allow governors to give the president-elect feedback on an economic recovery plan. Gov. Baldacci intends to push for a long-term recovery plan as well as a stimulus package in 2009, reported Capitol News Service.

Baldacci wants more federal funds for Medicaid programs and education, as well as a waiver for Medicaid match funding for Maine's Dirigo health insurance program, a change he says would stabilize the program and allow it to grow, according to the news service.
