Bangor economic development director to resign

Rodney McKay is retiring as Bangor’s director of community and economic development after 45 years on the job.

McKay, 68, plans to step down April 14, according to the Bangor Daily News. He took the job as economic development director in 1967, and during his tenure the city has developed the Bangor International Airport, revitalized the downtown and developed the Bangor Waterfront. He hopes to continue serving Bangor as a consultant for a period of time pending city council approval.

When retired, he plans to oversee home improvement projects and work on a cottage he co-owns with his sister, according to the paper.
