Bank of America to close Orono call center
Bank of America is closing its Orono call center in October, putting 200 people out of work. The move is part of the company's plan to shed 30,000 jobs over the next two or three years.
Call center employees were told yesterday the facility will close Oct. 31, according to the Bangor Daily News. BoA spokesman T.J. Crawford told the paper the company is working to find other jobs within the company for affected employees, while other eligible employees will be given severance packages. The call center primarily handles interactions with customers who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments. In December, BoA said it would close two branches in Orono and Sanford by March 16, but that all employees would be relocated to other locations.
In September, the North Carolina-based bank said it would lay off thousands of employees as part of an effort to cut $5 billion in costs.
