Beacon Hospice to be acquired

Home health services provider Amedisys Inc. is buying Boston-based Beacon Hospice, which owns properties in Maine, for $125 million.

Beacon provides hospice services at patients' homes, hospitals and nursing homes, and has offices in Augusta, Bangor, Lewiston, South Portland and York, according to its website. Officials at Baton Rouge, La.-based Amedisys said the acquisition will complement the company's home health business and increase Beacon's 1,300 average daily patients by nearly 40%.

Beacon has 23 locations in New England and an inpatient unit, and saw revenue last year of $80 million, according to a press release from Amedisys.
