BIW scores contract boost

Bath Iron Works has landed a contract modification and a new deal that will bring $49 million to the shipyard for work on Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

The contract upgrade boosts a pact awarded in March for BIW to provide lead yard services in the construction of Arleigh Burke, or DDG-51, destroyers. The new contract is valued at $28.3 million.

The shipyard also announced it will receive a separate $20 million contract for servicing the USS Michael Murphy after its initial "shakedown" voyage that will take it to its home port of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The General Dynamics subsidiary is working on two other ships in the DDG-51 class at the shipyard in Bath.
