Brewery to open in Lewiston's Bates Mill

Renovations have begun for a new craft brewery in the Bates Mill complex in Lewiston.

Baxter Brewing Co. plans to open the brewery this fall in 5,500 square feet of a former electrical storage room in the Bates Mill, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. Auburn native Luke Livingston, president and CEO, said at a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday the brewery plans to begin shipping two varieties of beer throughout Maine in October, and will eventually distribute throughout New England. The company plans to hire six employees in its first year and sell its craft beer in cans, making it the first brewery in New England to can its entire line of beers, according to the network.

The brewery is believed to be the first new manufacturer to open at the Bates Mill complex in 100 years.
