Emily Brostek, executive director of Consumers for Affordable Health Care, has announced her resignation to pursue other professional interests. Her last day will be Nov. 3.
The CAHC Board of Directors has formed a transition team, consisting of its board members and the staff of the Augusta-based nonprofit to guide the search for a replacement.
"The work that Emily has done has brought CAHC to a new level," Kolawole Bankole, chairman of CAHC’s board of directors, said in a news release. "Under Emily's leadership, CAHC embarked on an ambitious strategic planning process and we emerged a stronger and more vibrant organization that is well positioned to meet the challenges of the present. In the face of a divisive political environment, Emily led CAHC to pass bipartisan legislation that addresses important consumer issues, including protecting Mainers from surprise medical bills. In the face of funding challenges, Emily built a major gifts program, and increased individual donations by nearly 300% in just two short years. We are grateful for all Emily has done for CAHC to advance our mission, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors."
Brostek said it was “an incredible honor” to lead an organization dedicated to making sure Maine people “have a voice when it comes to their health care.”
"I know that I leave CAHC in very capable hands with our staff and board,” she said in a statement. “While I may no longer be at CAHC, I will always believe in CAHC's mission. I look forward to watching as CAHC continues to make strides to achieve quality, affordable health care for all Mainers."
"Though these are challenging times for health care, we are hopeful and excited for CAHC's next chapter," said Bankole. "While we will miss Emily, we are committed to hiring an individual to continue this success, and guide CAHC through the future."
