Brunswick Landing gets $615K EDA grant for sewer upgrades

Mölnlycke Health Care is one of the dozens of businesses located at Brunswick Landing, which has been awarded a $615,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration to pay for upgrades to sewer systems at the business development park.
With a tweet imprinted over the U.S. Department of Commerce’s logo, the Economic Development Administration announced Tuesday it was awarding a $615,000 grant to the Midcoast Regional Development Authority for upgrades to the sewer systems at Brunswick Landing.
Gov. Paul LePage followed with his own tweet, stating: “Thank you to @US_EDA, @USDOC & the @realDonaldTrump Administration for your $600K investment to upgrade wastewater infrastructure at #BrunswickLanding. This will support new business development & bring more jobs to the region. #mepolitics @WhiteHouse “
LePage’s tweet included a link to the EDA’s news release stating the project involved repairs and upgrades of three sanitary sewer pump stations that serve approximately 281,000 square feet of the 3,200-acre Brunswick Landing. Electrical services, generator hook-ups, pump installation and new piping all “will help the facility repurpose for industrial and commercial use, attracting new business development,” the EDA’s release stated.
Brunswick Landing has close to 2 million square feet of commercial and industrial space as well as Brunswick Executive Airport, which has two 8,000 foot runways and 650,000 square feet of hangar space and maintenance facilities.
In its latest economic development scorecard, Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority reports there are 110 entities doing business at Brunswick Landing and Topsham Commerce Park, including 32 new companies to Maine, such as Mölnlycke Health Care. Roughly 1,700 new jobs have been created, with new taxable property of nearly $160 million and $350 million in private and public capital investments.
“We commend the Midcoast Regional Development Authority for working to generate economic opportunities by improving facilities to attract new businesses,” Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord said in the news release. “This project will provide the necessary infrastructure to create hundreds of new jobs in Maine.”
