Nickerson & O’Day Inc., of Brewer, will manage construction of a new maintenance facility at Acadia National Park. Work is expected to start this spring, with the project to be completed in fall 2024. The National Park Service awarded a total of $32.6 million, which will include demolition of 20,000 square feet of existing structures. The new site will have a 27,000-square-foot main building with outbuildings. Maintenance functions will include workshops, storage, equipment-support spaces, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, workspaces, breakroom, conference rooms, utility support spaces, fuel station, vehicle storage, employee/staff parking and a wash bay. Funding was awarded through the Great American Outdoors Act, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said.
Optimum Construction Co., of Portland, is managing construction for the Baxter Shelter at Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. The site is adjacent to the Animal Refuge League’s Arthur P. Girard Adoption Center in Westbrook. Financing was provided by Cordia Capital Projects.
Vertical Harvest and Wright-Ryan Construction have much of the framework up on the 70,000-square-foot, multilevel urban greenhouse site in Westbrook. The site is expected to grow 2 million pounds of produce a year, indoors, distributing it locally. For the design, Portland-based Harriman collaborated with GYDE Architects of Jackson, Wy. Vertical Harvest, which is also based in Jackson, Wy., partnered with the city of Westbook on the project. Adjacent to the site, Wright-Ryan is building a four-level parking garage.
In the Sugarloaf area, AP27 LLC is working with contractor Corporate Construction, of Sabattus, and architect Platz Associates on Judson’s Plaza, a retail center with units of up to 7,500 square feet. Construction is being financed by Skowhegan Savings.
In Freeport, Zachau Construction has fully enclosed its project at Wolfe’s Neck’s Smith Center for Education and Research. Design work was by Opal Architecture, of Belfast. Tom Fowler PE was the civil engineer. Ann Kearsley Design handled landscape architecture. The lender was Bath Savings Bank. Key funding also came from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In Poland, post-and-beam framing is up on the planned Poland Provisions Cafe & General Store. Financing was provided by Maine Community Bank. Preservation Timber Framing, of Berwick, handled the post-and-beam work.
