Calais LNG has asked the state to delay for the third time hearings on its proposed liquefied natural gas terminal as it continues to line up new financial backers.
In a letter filed with the Board of Environmental Protection, the company said it is talking with two separate parties interested in investing in the project and asked the state to push back hearings 30 days in order to finalize an agreement, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. The company didn't name the investors, but said one has "access to a very significant natural gas supply" and the other has global commodity market experience. BEP chair Susan Lessard told MPBN she hasn't made a decision yet on a request and that a conference between interested parties, which Calais LNG wanted postponed, will proceed as planned Wednesday.
The BEP in July approved the company's request to delay public hearings until August on its proposed a $1 billion LNG terminal in Calais, after investor GS Power Holdings LLC backed out. The board granted another month's extension in August, setting a new deadline of Sept. 11.
